The South African Traditional Music Achievement (SATMA) Awards in partnership with Mpumalanga Provincial Government and SABC brings you the 16th Annual SATMA Awards under the theme My Culture, Your Culture, One Nation.
Under the COVID19 pandemic situation SATMA Awards still aims to continuously celebrate and contribute to the growth of South African traditional music glocally. The SATMA Awards have honored over 100 musicians, legends, up and coming artists and it prides itself to have contributed towards the growth and success of many groups and individuals. SATMA Awards’ mandate is to unite the different ethnic groups, preserves, develop and to promote our living heritage by finding innovative ways and to stay relevant with the current times to constantly deliver on our command of facilitating Social Cohesion and insuring our unity in our diverse cultures.
On 25 September 2021 in Mpumalanga Mbombela, the SATMA Awards in partnership with the Mpumalanga Department of Culture Sport and Recreation will be launching the 16th SATMA Awards programs for the year 2021 and Announcing all nominated Artists in the different categories. Few changes were made in some categories (e.g.) “Best Newcomer was changed” to “Best Upcoming Artist/Group” and introduced 4 more Categories in the year 2021 amongst the new categories (Best department Culture Affair Chief Director, Best Traditional Producer, Best traditional house music song and Best traditional collaboration Song.
Due to the Covid 19 regulations, we needed to adapt into new ways of doing things and online submissions were the highest in number more than submitting physically. The event is taking place in Mpumalanga, Mbombela on the 25th September 2021 with a program full of entertainment. Amongst the entertainers/performers are: Big Zulu, Afrotraction, Mduduzi Ntuli, Thabo Summary, Sindi Myeni and Cultural Groups.
The event will also be attended by different dignitaries nationally and Media Houses across provinces including SABC channels and Stations to cover the 16th SATMA Awards Launch and Announcement of Nominees
